Returning to Writing: Embracing the Urgency of the Call

Unexpected blessing

When two lines appeared on the pregnancy test I knew my life was about to change, but I had no idea just how much or how soon. Days after the confirmation of our pregnancy I began to feel the effects in full force. In response to my rough start to such a wonderful new chapter in my life, I was forced to take some time off from writing and focus on the pregnancy. and getting and staying well.

We decided to name her Elliana which means answers prayer.

Being so sick caused me to abandon my writing routine but also my daily devotional life took a blow. I slept more than usual and when I was awake I was crippled by nausea and migraines. Needless to say, it was a rough time. During this time, however, I began to memorize short scriptures. They helped me get through the days when I could not sit upright or even concentrate on reading The Word.

These short verses helped me stay focused on God in the roughest of days. They infused hope into moments of pain and feeling unwell. Having these verses helped me through the struggles of pregnancy. Looking back on this makes me remember why I started writing, to help others find hope in God’s word.

Now that I have reached five months, I have returned to having energy and feel the urge to return to writing and working on the ministry that God first called me to. In fact, as I return to writing, I find that the urgency of the call, to do the kingdom’s work, has exponentially increased.

The impending birth of our daughter has brought a realization of how important the great commission is, to go and tell the nations of the gospel. I want my daughter to know and follow Jesus and be compelled to share the good news in her own life as she grows.

I want my legacy to be a woman of virtue, one who followed Jesus no matter what. My heart is to help others along their journey, coming to faith, growing in the spirit, and making disciples. Through my life experience and through the knowledge and understanding that I have grown in, I want to share with others the hope that can only come from God, through Jesus Christ, His son.

The Road back to my calling

Two verses have laid heavy on my heart over the last couple of months. One of the verses that has been on my heart these past months is found in 1 Corinthians;

Be on Gaurd, Stand firm in the faith, be courageous, be strong, and do everything with love (1 Corinthians 16:13-14)

This verse has become a sort of motto for me in all that I do next “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. The second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” (Matthew 22:37-39)

I feel like when I don’t know what to do or what I should be doing if I remember these two verses I can once again find my way no matter how confusing or chaotic life gets. These two verses helped me find my way back to writing and sharing the gospel after being gone for five months. They reminded me of what God had called me to do.

After so many months away from my routine it was hard to get back into the flow. However, these verses echoed in my mind reminding me constantly that I had to follow what God put in my heart. It is my way of serving and loving God with all my heart, soul, and mind and using my talent for Him. It is also my way of loving others, helping them to know the truth of Jesus Christ, and to grow in their relationship with Him.

With this in mind, I begin again my writing and ministry here at More of Jesus Please, and I hope that you will all grow alongside me and share what God lays on your heart with those around you.

Verses to Remember

During the first half of my pregnancy, I created a collection of meaningful verses. I looked at them every day when I woke up and spent a lot of time in bed. I suggest you try it too. Find a place where you spend the most time, whether it’s at your desk or in your bedroom. Write down scriptures that hold significance for you and display them where you can easily see them every day.

Wall of verses.

Here are some verses that have helped me. You might find these verses encouraging and a good place to start for your own collection of verses.

“My heart is quiet and waits for God alone. My hope comes from Him. ” Psalms 62:5

“Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of His might.” Ephesians 6:10

I love the Lord because He hears my voice and my prayers.” Psalms 116:1

A Call to Community

I feel called by God to create a community where we can share our spiritual journeys and encourage each other with God’s word. In each post, I will pray on a few questions to ponder for the week. I encourage you to share your thoughts on one or more of the questions so that we can start a discussion.

Questions to Ponder
