Holy Living: Preparing for Christ’s Return

“Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us,” ‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭12‬:‭1‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

“Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses.

The author of Hebrews tells us that we are surrounded by a cloud of witnesses. Like a crowd at a sporting event the saints in heaven are cheering us on. In Revelations we are told not only are they cheer us on but they are interceding for us as well (Revelations 5:8). Like those who came before we have to run the race and to do that we must throw off anything that hinders us in our mission.

let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us.

As we run this race of life, sins, worries and cares of this life come to distract us from our main focus, Christ and His second coming (Luke 21:34-36). To prevent from becoming entangled in sin, we must lay our sins and concerns aside, remembering those who have successfully run the race before us and look to the future of Christ, His return and life in eternity.

and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us,”

It is not an easy path, but we have the perfect example, Christ Himself, and we have the Holy Spirit to help us follow Christ’s example. We must remain vigilant and full of the Holy Spirit, like the ten virgins waiting for the bridegroom’s return ( Matthew 25:1-13)

Conclusion

Everyday we need to live our life as if today is the day Jesus will return for His bride, the church. We do not know the day or hour but we know Jesus always excepted us to love as though the day is today. We must work towards throwing off the sins are issues that keep us from running the race and must live a life filled with the Holy spirit always on the look out for His return. We can do this by looking to the hero’s of the faith and most of all looking to Jesus and heeding the voice of the Holy Spirit.
I hope that as you walk through your day today you will be more aware of the Holy Spirit and His presence and that you will take time to look to the past of the saints that have come before and be inspired to throw off anything that is hindering your walk with Christ and to run head long toward our saviors loving embrace and His triumphant return.
